LOOKING BACK WITH WONDER . . .
FORWARD WITH FAITH . . .
THAT ALTRUISM WILL ULTIMATELY GAIN SWAY
IN THE STRUGGLES OF OUR HUMAN HEARTS . . .
My grandparents were born at the end of the Nineteenth Century. Barring bad fate my children will likely live well beyond the middle of the Twenty-First Century. Horse and buggies were still used when my grandparents were toddlers - to be replaced by cars and airplanes in their lifetimes. Radio and talking movies were new when my parents were children. The atom bomb was first exploded weeks after I turned two. I was a teen-ager before television came into widespread use. Years later my grandparents were still living to watch and to see from their living rooms images of men first stepping on the moon. Now my grown children hold in their hand a phone and computer far more powerful than the PC that I used to run my bookkeeping and tax service in the 1980s.
With ever increasing speed we rush forward to a partially imagined yet frequently uncertain future.
